Public Relations, Public Affairs, and Media Paper

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper on how an elementary school could overcome violence in the face of the media.

Incorporate the following public relations and public affairs and media elements specific to your organization’s critical event:

  • Research actual critical events of violence in schools. Based on how the media handled other critical events, how would you expect the media to handle yours? What could your organization do to preserve its public integrity under this circumstance?
  • What are the roles of public relations (PR) and public affairs (PA) in your critical event? At what point should the organization seek legal consultation when exploring PR and PA campaigns?
  • Explain the public’s right to know versus personal privacy. What ethical questions emerge when considering organizational truth and public communication?
  • Strategize for positive communication outcomes in press releases and press conferences. What significant elements must you include and exclude?
  • Determine the possible impact of various media covering your organization’s critical event, such as public speeches, interviews, and electronic media. What are the risks, and how might your organization mitigate them? What are the most effective ways to use media in this critical event?

Include at least three academic sources.

Discussion

Chapter 1 provided a high-level overview of the need for a national framework for protecting critical infrastructure. For some additional reading, take a look at the latest Presidential Order that relates to strengthening cybersecurity that relates to critical infrastructure:

After reading chapter 1 and looking at the link above, you’re ready to participate in the first discussion.

Let’s look at a real-world scenario and how the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plays into it. In the scenario, the United States will be hit by a large-scale, coordinated cyber attack organized by China. These attacks debilitate the functioning of government agencies, parts of the critical infrastructure, and commercial ventures. The IT infrastructure of several agencies are paralyzed, the electric grid in most of the country is shut down, telephone traffic is seriously limited and satellite communications are down (limiting the Department of Defense’s [DOD’s] ability to communicate with commands overseas). International commerce and financial institutions are also severely hit. Please explain how DHS should handle this situation.

You must do the following:

1) Create a new thread. As indicated above, please explain how DHS should handle the situation described in the preceding paragraph.

2) Select AT LEAST 3 other students’ threads and post substantive comments on those threads. Your comments should extend the conversation started with the thread.

Discussion: Political and Technical Budget Strategies

In addition to regular job responsibilities, agency administrators have to be good salespeople. They are required each year to “sell their budgets” to those holding the purse strings (most commonly, local, state, or federal legislators). Annually, as they submit budgets, administrators hope to receive the news that the budget is funded in full. In reality, budgets are often questioned and expenditures must be justified to convince funders that agency requests are reasonable, important, and necessary. Agency administrators may use political and technical strategies to convince legislators to fund their budgets. Political strategies emphasize ways to maximize budget funding and are used by administrators that are good at “playing politics.” This approach is often used when there is a difficult financial climate. Technical strategies emphasize the numbers or budget facts. By using a technical strategy, an administrator may demonstrate that the agency is highly productive and worthy of funding. The agency administrator must gauge the political and financial environment to determine which strategy works best to accomplish the agency’s budgeting goals.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the video segment “Budget Proposals” and consider how politics impacts the budgeting process.
  • Review Chapter 2 of your course text, The Basics of Public Budgeting and Financial Management, and focus on the difference between political and technical budgeting strategies.
  • Consider scenarios in which each budgeting strategy might be used.
  • Consider the implications of using a political budgeting strategy versus using a technical budgeting strategy in the budget funding process.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a brief description of political and technical budgeting strategies. Then describe a scenario where one of these budgeting strategies might be more advantageous than the other and explain why. Finally explain at least one implication of using the strategy you selected. Be specific.

BUSI 643 CASE STUDY 3

Case Study 3

Choose 1 of the following 3 options:

  1. Chapter 7, “Applications: Evaluation of Two New Assessment Methods  for Selecting Telephone Customer Service Representatives”: answer  questions 1–3. (title page, at least three complete pages of original analysis and discussion, reference page).
  2. Chapter 7, “Applications: Conducting Empirical Validation and  Adverse Impact Analysis”: complete calculations to answer questions 1–4.  (title page, at least three complete pages of original analysis and discussion, reference page).
  3. Chapter 8, “Applications: Developing a Lawful Application Bank”:  complete the chart and submit as an APA-formatted appendix [following  the reference page]. (title page, at least three complete pages of original analysis and discussion, reference page).

Submit this assignment by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.

Each case study and other written assignments must be submitted as one MS Word attachment

Professor’s recommendations/reminders:

  1. Prior to beginning this assignment, please explore the “Case Study Instructions” link above.
  2. Please review again the “Professor’s  Improvement Suggestions” document available for download in the  “Syllabus and Assignment Instructions” area of the Course Content.  Reading and following the “Case Studies” section of this document will  help you achieve full credit on the case studies.

If  Chapter 8, “Applications: Developing a Lawful Application Bank” is your  selected case, the typed application should be submitted as an  APA-formatted appendix following the references page; in addition to the  chart/table (appendix), you must also submit a minimum of three complete pages of original analysis and discussion.

The  typed analysis and discussion must be in narrative prose, and not  bulleted statements. Continue to provide a title page, reference page,  and cite your references throughout the narrative.

  1. Select one of the assigned case studies and answer the specific case questions. (This is a CASE STUDY assignment – do not answer the general end-of-chapter discussion questions in error.)
  2. You  must submit one MS Word attachment containing a title page, at least  three complete pages of original analysis and discussion, and a  references page (a minimum of one current, scholarly reference published  in or after 2014).

Correct use of the APA format for in-text citations and the references list is required for all BUSI 643 assignments.

One-inch  margins on all four sides, and 12 point Times New Roman fonts on all  pages – title page, narrative, and references list.

Good tips on how to cite in-text and list references are available in the Professor’s Improvement Suggestions document.

  1. Do  not add extra spaces between lines, do not add extra white space at the  top or bottom of pages, and do not use margins greater than one-inch.  Doing so will result in a short paper and a significant grading reduction.
  2. Submitting  2.9 pages of typed narrative or less will result in a significant  grading reduction. The required title page and required references page  do not count toward the minimum page count.
  3. The  case study must have a title page (title of paper, student’s name,  course number and name, and the date submitted) and an APA-formatted  references list.
  4. Graduate-level  analysis and discussion of case study scenarios requires good narrative  prose. As such, please do not submit bulleted or numbered statements in  case studies.
  5. Use  tables and figures sparingly; if these are used they must be captioned  correctly in the APA format and do not count toward the three-page  minimum of typed narrative.
  6. The  APA format requires that you insert in-text citations at the correct  places in the narrative each and every time someone else influenced your  work and when you use the ideas, statistics, terms or information of  others.

Business Administration Capstone

In this assignment, you are to use the same corporation you selected and focused on for Assignments 1, 2, and 3.

Consider the corporation you have selected to use in your first three assignments (NIKE, INC). Identify one of the firm’s major competitors that you would consider working for.
Research the corporation on its own Website, the public filings on the Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database (http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml), in the University’s online databases, and any other sources you can find. The annual report will often provide insights that can help address some of these questions.
You will do a 15 minutes presentation to the Board of Directors of the corporation. Develop an eight to twelve slide PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes or record a video based upon Assignments 1 through 4. You may choose to compare your chosen corporation to a major competitor with whom you would like to work. You will make recommendations to the Board of Directors based upon your analysis and decision on why the corporation remains or is not a good fit for you.
Determine the impact of the company’s mission, vision, and primary stakeholders on its overall success as a competitive employer in the industry.

Create a SWOT analysis for the company to determine its major strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Based on the SWOT analysis, outline a strategy for the company to capitalize on its strengths and opportunities, and minimize its weaknesses and threats.

Discuss the various levels and types of strategies the firm may use to maximize its competitiveness and profitability.

Outline a communications plan the company could use to make the strategies you recommend above known to all stakeholders.

Develop an executive level Power Point presentation with 8 -12 slides with speaker notes and appropriate graphics or professional video.

Assess efforts by this corporation to be a responsible (ethical) corporate citizen and determine the impact these efforts (or lack thereof) have on the company’s bottom line. Provide specific examples to support your response.

Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources.

References must be submitted on a Works Cited page using SWS format. This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.

CASE STUDY: An Older Immigrant Couple: Mr. and Mrs.

Arahan Mr. and Mrs. Arahan, an older couple in their seventies, have been living with their oldest daughter, her husband of 15 years, and their two children, ages 12 and 14. They all live in a middle-income neighborhood in a suburb of a metropolitan city. Mr. and Mrs. Arahan are both college educated and worked full-time while they were in their native country. In addition, Mr. Arahan, the only offspring of wealthy parents, inherited a substantial amount of money and real estate. Their daughter came to the United States as a registered nurse and met her husband, a drug company representative. The older couple moved to the United States when their daughter became a U.S. citizen and petitioned them as immigrants. Since the couple was facing retirement, they welcomed the opportunity to come to the United States. The Arahans found life in the United States different from that in their home country, but their adjustment was not as difficult because both were healthy and spoke English fluently. Most of their time was spent taking care of their two grandchildren and the house. As the grandchildren grew older, the older couple found that they had more spare time. The daughter and her husband advanced in their careers and spent a great deal more time at their jobs. There were few family dinners during the week. On weekends, the daughter, her husband, and their children socialized with their own friends. The couple began to feel isolated and longed for a more active life. Mr. and Mrs. Arahan began to think that perhaps they should return to the home country, where they still had relatives and friends. However, political and economic issues would have made it difficult for them to live there. Besides, they had become accustomed to the way of life in the United States with all the modern conveniences and abundance of goods that were difficult to obtain in their country. However, they also became concerned that they might not be able to tolerate the winter months and that minor health problems might worsen as they aged. They wondered who would take care of them if they became very frail and where they would live, knowing that their daughter had only saved money for their grandchildren’s college education. They expressed their sentiments to their daughter, who became very concerned about how her parents were feeling. This older couple had been attending church on a regular basis, but had never been active in other church-related activities. The church bulletin announced the establishment of parish nursing with two retired registered nurses as volunteers. The couple attended the first opening of the parish clinic. Here, they met one of the registered nurses, who had a short discussion with them about the services offered. The registered nurse had spent a great deal of her working years as a community health nurse. She informed Mr. and Mrs. Arahan of her availability to help them resolve any health-related issues.

Reflective Questions

1. What strategies could be suggested for this older adult couple to enhance their quality of life?

2. What community resources can they utilize?

3. What can the daughter and her family do to address the feelings of isolation of the older couple?

4. What health promotion activities can ensure a healthy lifestyle for them?

NRSE 6052A: Essentials Of Evidence-Based Practice

Changes in culture and technology have resulted in patient populations that are often well informed and educated, even before consulting or considering a healthcare need delivered by a health professional. Fueled by this, health professionals are increasingly involving patients in treatment decisions. However, this often comes with challenges, as illnesses and treatments can become complex.

What has your experience been with patient involvement in treatment or healthcare decisions?

In this Discussion, you will share your experiences and consider the impact of patient involvement (or lack of involvement). You will also consider the use of a patient decision aid to inform best practices for patient care and healthcare decision making.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on a time when you experienced a patient being brought into (or not being brought into) a decision regarding their treatment plan.
  • Review the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Decision Aids Inventory at https://decisionaid.ohri.ca/.
    • Choose “For Specific Conditions,” then Browse an alphabetical listing of decision aids by health topic.
  • NOTE: To ensure compliance with HIPAA rules, please DO NOT use the patient’s real name or any information that might identify the patient or organization/practice.

By Day 3 of Week 11

Post a brief description of the situation you experienced and explain how incorporating or not incorporating patient preferences and values impacted the outcome of their treatment plan. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how including patient preferences and values might impact the trajectory of the situation and how these were reflected in the treatment plan. Finally, explain the value of the patient decision aid you selected and how it might contribute to effective decision making, both in general and in the experience you described. Describe how you might use this decision aid inventory in your professional practice or personal life.

By Day 6 of Week 11

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days and offer alternative views on the impact of patient preferences on treatment plans or outcomes, or the potential impact of patient decision aids on situations like the one shared.
