In high acuity client care, high workloads have multiple effects such as staff burnout and stress. This can result in decreased worker-family contact and failure to meet professional standards for investigation response and completion, Further, agencies fail to meet client care standards in case plan completion and updates. Clients experience increased time to permanency, rates of maltreatment recurrence, and foster care placements and re-entries into foster care. The consequences of staff turnover results in longer waits to close cases, leaving families in uncertainty. This research found that administrative burden falls across the entire range of CPS direct services, from investigations to ensuring family well-being and permanence.
